Drug and Alcohol Rehab in Arkansas

State treatment data for substance use disorders are derived from two primary sources-an annual one-day census in N-SSATS and annual addiction treatment admissions from the Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS). In the 2010 N-SSATS survey, Arkansas showed a total of 3,936 clients in addiction treatment, the majority of whom (3,068 or 77.9%) were in outpatient addiction treatment. Of the total number of clients in treatment on this date, 184 were under the age of 18.

Across the years for which TEDS data are available, Arkansas has seen a substantial shift in the constellation of problems present at treatment admission. Alcohol-only admissions, which accounted for 39% of admissions in 1992, now stand at only 14%. Combinations of drug  and alcohol addictions now make up 51% of all admissions in the state.

The National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services (N-SSATS) is an annual survey of facilities providing substance abuse treatment. It is conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). N-SSATS is designed to collect data on the location, characteristics, services offered, and number of clients in treatment at alcohol and drug abuse treatment facilities (both public and private) throughout the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and other U.S. jurisdictions.

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) Support for Community-Based Prevention in Arkansas

Recognizing that local problems require local solutions, Drug Free Communities (DFC) organizations mobilize communities to prevent youth drug use by creating local data-driven strategies to reduce drug use in the community. ONDCP works to foster the growth of new coalitions and support existing coalitions through the DFC grants. In FY 2011, the following Arkansas coalitions received grants from ONDCP:

TEA Coalition
Tremendous Opportunities for Union County Health (TOUCH)
River Valley Tobacco and Drug Free Coalition
Quapaw House, Inc
Madison County Community Coalition
Drug Free Rogers Lowell
White County Invested in Substance Abuse Eradication (WISE)
