In West Virginia, 82 substance abuse treatment facilities were included in the 2010 N-SSATS, reporting that there were 10,132 clients in substance abuse treatment on March 31, 2010. The survey response rate in West Virginia was 92%.

According to the 2010 National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services (N-SSATS) annual surveys, the number of addiction treatment facilities in West Virginia was 82. Of these, 14 were private for-profit and 60 were private non-profit. The remainder were owned/operated by federal, State or local government(s). Since 2002, the number of treatment facilities in West Virginia has remained relatively stable.

Although addiction treatment facilities in West Virginia may offer more than one modality of care, in 2010 the majority of treatment facilities (60 or 73.2%) offered some form of outpatient addiction treatment. Another 27 facilities offered some form of residential addiction treatment, where 9 offered short term care and 21 offered long term addiction treatment, with 7 of these residential addiction treatment facilities offering detoxification. There were 9 facilities offering opioid treatment program in West Virginia with certified physicians providing Methadone and Buprenorphine treatments.
